High school boys tennis roundup: Woodstock North edges Johnsburg behind Laygreck

Brandon Langreck won in three sets at No. 1 singles Thursday to lead Woodstock North to a 4-3 Kishwaukee River Conference victory against Johnsburg in Johnsburg.

Langreck defeated Kevin Sompel, 6-1, 5-7, 7-5, in the only three-set match of the day. Alfredo Balleno didn't drop a game at No. 2 singles for the Thunder, and Jackson Emmons picked up the win at No. 3 singles. Also for North, Collin McClurg and Nick Phillips won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 doubles.

For Johnsburg, Luke Wolter and Brian Anderson won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-1, Tim Bertulis and Grant Fisher won, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles, and Cody Dschida and Connor McCrea won, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles.

Crystal Lake Central 6, McHenry 1: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers earned wins in all three singles matches in addition to the top three doubles matches in an FVC victory. Ethan St. John (No. 1 singles), Johnny Wallace (No. 2 singles) and Matt Byrnes (No. 3 singles) all won in straight sets for Central.  

Dev Brahmbhatt and Scott Hyland (No. 1 doubles) and Matt Johnson and Josh Marcus (No. 2 doubles) also won in straight sets for the Tigers (5-4, 2-3 FVC), while Christian Raguero and Maverick Edwards earned a, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, victory at No. 3 doubles.  

McHenry's Trevor Crippen and Joe Mihevc won, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 4 doubles.

Woodstock 7, Marengo 0: At Marengo, the Blue Streaks stayed undefeated in dual matches with a sweep over the Indians, improving to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the KRC. Winning at singles for the Streaks were Adam Boyle (No. 1 singles), Jax Obenchain (No. 2 singles) and Cullen Brown (No. 3 singles).

Andrew Gippert and Andrew Ahmeti (No. 2 doubles) and Nelson Maya and Spencer Zanck (No. 4 doubles) won without dropping a game, and Austin Ellegood and Chris Carzoli (No. 1 doubles) and Noah Robey and Ian Dawdy (No. 3 doubles) each won and lost one game.

Jacobs 7, Crystal Lake South 0: At Algonquin, the Eagles dropped one set in the FVC sweep against South. Winning at singles for Jacobs were Kerwin Chong (No. 1 singles), Kyle Burton (No. 2 singles), and Kevin Burton (No. 3 singles).

At doubles, Winston Yau and Jakub Sobkowicz (No. 1 doubles), Matthew Kastritis and Jack Nickoley (No. 2 doubles), Ryan Elliott and Jacob Moser (No. 3 doubles), and Mauricio Martinez and Brandon Jones (No. 4 doubles) all earned victories.

Cary-Grove 4, Huntley 3: At Huntley, Michael Ptaszek and Sam Sitarski won at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively, to lead the Trojans to the FVC win. Kevin McDonald and Luke Weber added a victory at No. 2 doubles, and Teddy Price and Colin Enstrom won at No. 3 doubles, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, against Huntley's Drake Southwell and Ben Modrich.

Jusitn Schee won, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 3 singles for the Raiders, and Jack Soderwall and Jacob Wat (No. 1 doubles) and Vince Eliscu and Abhilash Parath (No. 4 doubles) each had wins.
