Crystal Lake Central co-op – made up of golfers from Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South and Cary-Grove – blew away the 10-team field Tuesday at Boone Creek with a season-low 311 en route to its eighth straight McHenry County Tournament title.
Marian Central was 36 strokes behind Central and took second with a 347, and Huntley (355) was third.
"We're really on our game this year," said Rylie Schurter, the only senior on the team. "We really have our priorities straight as a team, and we have really high expectations for ourselves, which is good and bad."
On Tuesday, it was a lot of good for the Tigers, who owned four of the top-five individual scores, led by Cary-Grove sophomore Molly Lyne.
Lyne, who shot an 80 in her county debut as a freshman, earned medalist honors with a 4-over-par 74. Schurter, last year's champion, was runner-up with a 77, Kat Bevill was fourth with a 79, and freshman Renata Petersen was fifth with an 81.
"I think we're happy with what we're shooting externally, but internally we're really working on staying positive and keeping our mental game up," Schurter said. "I think once we reach that level, we're going to be unstoppable."
