VOLO – Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a man in an open garage holding a handgun last week in Volo.
Deputies responded about 5 p.m. Oct. 4 to the 200 block of Niagara Drive in Volo for a report of a man holding a handgun in a garage, Lake County Sheriff’s Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.
“As a call like this is serious, several sheriff’s deputies responded,” Covelli said.
Police were able to quickly make contact with the occupants of the home in question, who were cooperative, and they determined the gun was a BB gun.
Covelli said there was no further information that suggested a crime had been committed, and deputies left the scene.
No businesses were ordered to lock down, but some in the area might have chosen to do so on their own, Covelli said.
In August 2015, a similar call was reported in the 200 block of Niagara Drive, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded about 11 p.m. Aug. 1, 2015, to the same area for a report of shots fired.
“The 911 caller reported he saw an individual with a handgun and heard a gunshot come from the garage of a neighbor’s home,” the release stated.
Police found a discharged gun round was lodged in the door of a home in the 600 block of Richard Brown Boulevard. Joshua A. Polk, 24, and Caroline J. Tatum, 18, both of the 200 block of Niagara Drive, were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
