High school cross country roundup: Johnsburg boys, girls compete in Amboy Invitational

Johnsburg senior Tim Bertulis finished fourth at the Amboy Cross Country Invitational on Monday in a time of 15:08.1.

Bertulis, a Class 1A All-Stater last year, finished behind three runners who were ahead of him at last year’s state meet. Monticello’s Garrett Dixon (14:51.6) and Alex Helmuth (14:53.3) were first and second, while Seneca’s Christopher Collet (15:05.3) was third.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Amboy Invitational: Johnsburg sophomore Sam Schmitt finished 13th in 19:09.8 to lead the Skyhawks to fourth place among 26 teams at the meet.

Rock Falls (61), Monticello (82) and Bishop McNamara (134) finished ahead of Johnsburg (150).

The Skyhawks’ other scoring runners were Katelyn Davis (22nd, 20:07.3), Hannah Anderson (38th, 20:37.7), Denali Nett (47th, 21:05.9) and Ashley Molidor (49th, 21:10.4).
