To the Editor:
Way back when, some idiot poisoned Tylenol and lawmakers passed a law to have every over-the-counter drug manufacturer put in protective seals. I can understand this on food and medicine, but on a bottle of power steering fluid and antifreeze? I wonder how many lives that saved?
In order to reduce or end gun violence, laws were passed to stop the importing of cheap handguns, such as the Saturday Night Special. Wow. That really worked.
An idiot walks into a pawn shop and buys a gun, walks out and into a school and shoots a bunch of children. Illinois passed a law requiring a 72-hour cooling down period. That also worked.
Chicago passes a law for the Firearm Owners Identification card to reduce gun crime and to monitor who owns guns – that really worked. (I know it’s a state law, but it started in Chicago and whatever Chicago wants, the rest of Illinois gets.)
Some poor kid lights a firecracker and burns himself and laws are passed outlawing explosive fireworks.
The point I am trying to make is that when some tragedy happens, the liberals just think all they have to do is pass a law and everything will be OK.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are stuck with the aftermath.
