CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake police have put out an arrest warrant for an Iowa man in connection with an October robbery at Dalzell Jewelers, according to a news release from the department.
Cordall A. Robinson, 19, of the 4000 block of 22nd Avenue, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was charged with retail theft and aggravated battery in the public way, police said. His bond is set at $20,000.
Crystal Lake police officers were called Oct. 21 to Dalzell Jewelers, 41 N. Williams St., in response to a robbery that had just occurred, police said.
During the course of the investigation, officers learned that Robinson entered the store and asked to view high-end watches and diamond jewelry. The employee put the trays containing the jewelry on the display case when Robinson grabbed them both and fled on foot, police said.
Robinson hit an employee who tried to stop him on his way out of the store, police said. Robinson entered a nearby car where a driver was waiting, and the two fled with about $35,000 in jewelry, police said.
Crystal Lake detectives identified a suspect, reviewed the case with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and obtained a warrant for Robinson on Nov. 9. The U.S. Marshals Service and Iowa authorities have been notified.
The investigation is ongoing to identify the getaway driver, police said.
