HUNTLEY – Huntley leaders have issued a warning about a phone scam where individuals are masquerading as members of the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce and targeting residents’ pocketbooks.
“We have become aware that there are individuals/businesses calling representing themselves as the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce and/or calling on behalf of the Huntley Community Guide or similar representation,” Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sunday Graham said in a statement. “It is not clear what the product is they are attempting to sell other than ‘ads’ to receive money from unsuspecting businesses or organizations targeting Huntley.”
The Huntley Chamber completed the Huntley Community Guide ad sales Oct. 1. The completed guide will be mailed Dec. 1.
“Only myself, DeAnn (Peroutka, administrative assistant) or Judy Barr (community guide project team member) would be contacting businesses or organizations representing the Huntley Chamber and our community guide,” Graham said in the statement.
The Chamber has been contacted about this scam in the past, Graham said.
“Fortunately, last time no one became a victim,” Graham said.
Huntley Police Chief Mike Klunk was not available Monday for comment.
