To the Editor:
In their rush to approve anything in the name of so-called tax reform, Congressmen Roskam and Hultgren have passed one of the most damaging pieces of legislation ever to pass Congress. This is especially true of the bills’ effect on the nation’s senior citizens. Medicare cuts alone are projected to hit $25 billion next year, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, and would increase steadily by 2026. This would violate the president’s pledge not to cut the health-care entitlement program and will result in a severe decrease in the quality of care of our nation’s seniors. Top this off with a $1.5 trillion deficit over the next decade and no assurance that corporate tax cuts will be reinvested in job expansion and you have one turkey of a tax increase.
