Crystal Lake home deemed uninhabitable after blaze

Almost a dozen fire agencies responded to assist

A fire sent flames through the front of a Crystal Lake home Tuesday night and left the home uninhabitable. Crystal Lake firefighters responded about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday to 421 Nash Road in Crystal Lake for a reported structure fire called in by an occupant of the residence, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

CRYSTAL LAKE – A fire sent flames through the front of a Crystal Lake home Tuesday night and left the home uninhabitable.

Crystal Lake firefighters responded about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of Nash Road in Crystal Lake for a structure fire called in by an occupant of the residence, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

When first responders arrived at 10:45 p.m., they saw flames coming from the front of the single-story home. Additional assistance was requested from 10 other fire agencies.

The flames quickly were extinguished, according to the release, and no one was injured. Firefighters contained the fire’s damage, but the home sustained smoke damage throughout.

The total damage is estimated to be more than $25,000, and the Crystal Lake Building Department deemed the home uninhabitable.

NICOR and ComEd responded to secure the residence’s utilities, and the American Red Cross is assisting its former occupants with temporary accommodations.

The fire’s cause is under investigation.

Firefighters from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, McHenry, Barrington Countryside, West Dundee, Carpentersville, Marengo, Huntley, Cary, Wauconda and Nunda Rural units assisted.
