To the Editor:
It was wonderful to see the more than 75 people who turned out for the Democrats Care for Puerto Rico and Virgin Island Fundraiser a few weeks ago.
The money collected went directly to United Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands Relief Logistics and to two Wauconda teachers who joined our event to describe conditions their own families face in the Puerto Rican mountains. It was an evening of laughter and tears. The McHenry County Democrats care and it showed in their generosity. While our government in Washington flounders, we can show our fellow citizens there are people who are thinking of them.
Thanks to all who helped make this evening possible and there were many. The county Democrats hosted and are working to make our county better in many other ways. Visit www.mchenrydems.org to find out more. Thanks to the Northwest Herald for a wonderful article prior to the event. Too bad the Northwest Herald missed covering that evening so there was no follow-up article or photos.
A number of Democratic candidates were able to “meet and greet” participants adding to the feeling of hope for the future. It was about trying to make a difference not only for the people of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, but also for our McHenry County. We may have a small population, but we can have a positive effect thousands of miles away while working in a positive way with our neighbors encouraging candidates.
