Miarecki and her husband, George Miarecki, bought the home and opened the Cherry Tree Inn bed and breakfast, which started to host guests in September. The 5,815-square-foot, eight-bedroom, 8½-bathroom home is at 344 Fremont St. in Woodstock.
Frozen pipes have been a problem for many McHenry County residents during a continuous cold spell. If the weather holds, the Chicago area will tie a record set in 1895 and 1936 for the most consecutive days (12) where temperatures never climbed above 20 degrees, said Ricky Castro, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded within five minutes to shut off the flow of water and divert draining, Lori Miarecki said.
Water gushed through the ceiling, lights and walls before flowing into the heating vents, which still were filled with water Wednesday, Lori Miarecki said. Water also got into the original bay windows, which will need to be restored.
Lori Miarecki met with an insurance adjuster Wednesday afternoon, and she said the extent and cost of the damage and has not yet been determined, but she estimates it will cost a minimum of $10,000.
“Saving the historical value is the most important thing to me,” Lori Miarecki said.
