McHENRY – The McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce has named businessman Gary Lang the winner of its annual Frank E. Low award.
Lang founded Gary Lang Auto Group, which opened in May 1983 as a Chevrolet dealership. The group moved to its current location at 1107 S. Route 31 in 1995 and underwent remodeling and expansion in 2013.
The 22-acre auto group offers seven new car makes – including Chevrolet, Kia, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Subaru and Mitsubishi – a selection of used cars and 68 service bays, according to its website.
The annual award is named after the late Frank E. Low, who owned Frank E. Low Insurance Co. He also was a key player in the Chamber’s early years. The award recognizes people in the area who contribute to the community.
The Chamber chose Lang because of the important work he does to give back to McHenry and its surrounding area.
“Gary Lang uses his resources to help nonprofit organizations fund their [operations] so they can supply essential community services,” Chamber President Kay Bates said. “Because Gary Lang and Gary Lang Auto Group are located in McHenry, the community is stronger.”
Lang has donated cars for driver’s education programs at local schools and helped fund community events such as McHenry’s Fiesta Days; Green Street Cruise Night; Blues, Brews and BBQs; McHenry River Run; and school sporting events.
Lang and his employees also have been leaders on community boards, including the Chamber and the Illinois Automobile Dealers Association.
Chamber officials will honor Lang with the award at the Chamber’s dinner dance, “The Red Carpet Affair,” from
6 to 11:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at D’Andrea Banquet and Conference Center, 4419 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
