WOODSTOCK – Tina Hill has dropped out of the race for a seat on the McHenry County Board.

“I have decided to withdraw from the race for County Board, and I am putting my full support behind Lesli Melendy and John Jung in the Republican primary election on March 20,” the Woodstock Republican wrote in a statement released Wednesday. “The voters of District 5 deserve a return to having four competent and professional representatives on the County Board.”

After a brief hiatus from politics and a losing campaign to run the office of county recorder, the former County Board chairwoman sent a letter to supporters in November announcing her bid for a District 5 seat.

District 5 is represented by Paula Yensen, D-Lake in the Hills; Michael Skala, R-Huntley; John Jung, R-Woodstock; and Michael Rein, R-Woodstock. Both Jung and Rein are up for re-election.

Hill said she plans to back Melendy, R-Huntley, in an effort to knock Rein out of the race.

“While I am up to the challenge of running again for County Board, I have decided that the need to replace Rein takes priority over my political aspirations,” Hill wrote. “Melendy, and the experience and the enthusiasm she brings, is the better candidate to do this.”

Rein and Melendy were not available for comment Wednesday.
