To the Editor:
For about seven years, I have placed 4 BERMA SHAVE type signs on my lot saying “VOTE INCUMBENTS OUT OF OFFICE.” I still believe that this is a good and necessary thing; plus, it allows one term limit with the stipulation that they cannot run for another political office for five years, and they do not get any retirement or benefit package.
For those of you who think that throwing the baby out with the dirty water is a bad thing, consider this: A newly elected official will sit down and say, “If I pass any legislation that requires an increase in taxes, it would be bad for my families, friends or business. Well, I better get busy on getting re-elected. I know I’ll set up a committee of some wealthy and/or friends and get started on a re-election campaign. Since they were so helpful in getting me re-elected, I think it’s only right that they can be on my advisory staff to help me make the right decision on all the legislation.”
Another thing is the Supreme Court should change the lobbying law and the laws that allow businesses to contribute or donate money or goods or services in any way, shape or form to any election, re-election or campaign. This also would mean that they could not provide funds, etc., to any type of organization that is promoting the election or re-election of a politician candidate.
