Lake in the Hills police ramp up patrol for St. Patrick's Day weekend

Officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers, seat belt violations

LAKE IN THE HILLS – The Lake in the Hills Police Department will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and seat belt violations as part of a concerted effort to keep the roads safe during St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The department will conduct special patrols Friday through Monday to crack down on alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers, and to reinforce seat belt safety, according to a news release.

Other area departments also are conducting holiday patrols.

Drunken drivers make St. Patrick’s Day one of the deadliest holidays, killing more than 10,000 people each year nationwide, the release stated.

A party host can be liable and potentially charged if someone they served is involved in an impaired driving crash, according to the release. Partygoers should make plans and use a designated sober driver to avoid crashes and arrests for driving under the influence, police said.
