“The last couple of months leading up to the competition, I’ve been working on stamina and getting as many run-throughs as I can so when I go on the stage, I’m comfortable.”
Placing seventh out of 50 at the Midwest regional qualifier, McDonald will compete March 30 in the younger than 19 age group, while Izzy is scheduled to compete on March 24 in the 10 to 11 age group, taking ninth out of 150 in her regional competition.
Both male and female competitors from all over the world, including England, Ireland and Germany, will compete.
In preparation, McDonald has been taking tips from fellow Irish dancer Shanna McDonald, also a student at Mayer School of Dance, who just so happens to be her identical twin sister.
“A lot of what we do with dancing we do together,” Brianna McDonald said. “Especially nit-picking and drilling things. It’s not a competition between us. We motivate and encourage each other.”
Shanna also did well in the regionals, but was not able to make the cut to head to Glasgow. She will be present to cheer on Brianna during her competition, along with their parents who will make the trip.
