A pair of escaped cattle wandered the streets Thursday till the cows came home – literally.
A passer-by called police about
10:50 a.m. to report cows on Route 31, south of Harts Road.
It’s unknown how long the cows were loose while they roamed about a half-mile from a farm on Pioneer Road in Richmond Township, McHenry County Sheriff’s spokesman Tim Creighton said.
Sheriff’s deputies and McHenry County conservation officers used their pickup trucks to herd the cows back home.
“Shockingly, this happens more than you would believe in rural areas of our county,” Creighton said in an email.
Police posted a photo of the cows online and said, “In this job you just never know what your day is going to entail.”
