Woodstock woman takes plea deal on cocaine charges; husband considers state's offer

Woman gets prison sentence while man considers options

A 29-year-old man accused of selling cocaine to an undercover officer could follow his wife’s example and enter a negotiated plea on drug delivery charges.

Seemingly dissatisfied with his options – accepting the offer or going to trial – Deonte L. Baugh told McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather that he didn’t think she “knew what was going on.”

“You can take the state’s offer or you go to trial,” Prather said. “It’s very simple.”

Police arrested Baugh and 27-year-old Durelle J. Hall in July after they were accused of selling cocaine to an undercover police officer on two separate occasions.

The pair face a series of felony drug and child endangerment charges stemming from a police search of their Woodstock home. There, McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies said they found more than 3 pounds of marijuana, 17 grams of cocaine and 10 Ativan pills.

At the time, Hall was awaiting sentencing for a drug-induced homicide conviction in connection with a Marengo overdose death. She since has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The two recently were married at the McHenry County Jail, and on May 9, Hall accepted a negotiated plea to delivering cocaine and child endangerment.

She was ordered to serve another
4½ years in prison and remained at the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday afternoon, jail records show.

Baugh’s attorney, Special Public Defender Thomas Carroll, declined to comment.

Attorneys on Wednesday did not discuss the terms of the offer in open court or say how much prison time Baugh faced if he were to accept the plea deal.

The case will continue Wednesday.
