Letters to the Editor

Letter: Service Learning benefits

To the Editor:

Service Learning helps teach students and citizens how they can get involved in their community and improve organizational, group, and interpersonal skills. This shows that anyone can help make a difference to improve- not only our community-but our world.

Service Learning also helps advocate for others in a way that they may not initially understand which creates empathy to assist with community needs.

Every team in Richard Bernotas Middle School is engaging in a Service Learning project. For example, an 8th-grade team held a fundraiser for St. Baldrick's Day. Another team gave their time to the local Crystal Lake Food Pantry.

These influential Service Learning projects teach RBMS students about their community and whether young or old, you can make a difference.

We believe it is important to volunteer in our community because by volunteering, you set a good example for others, and give significant advice for others to do the same. In addition, by helping out in your community, not only are you making a positive impact, but feeling good at the same time, because you helped enlighten someone’s day.

Volunteering has a substantial impact on others and our communities. Your benevolence can help change your community into a kind and caring place for everyone! Subsequently, not only are the students at RBMS contributing to their community, they feel charitable serving others and being worthy examples.

Furthermore, not only will you change others lives, you will change your own.
