Letter: Learning from studying abroad

To the Editor:

Nowadays, more and more students in school have the option to study abroad and they should. This experience allows you to learn about different cultures and languages as well as it helps you grow as a person.

Usually, students choose to study in a different country based on their culture, language and what they have seen from the outside. However, the idea that students had about the country is, most of the times, a distortion of reality, which was my experience as a foreign student from Barcelona, Spain.

Being an international student is an incredible and hard experience in which someone learns the importance of home and family. When you spend a lot of time abroad, you realize how important and how much you miss your life back home that you did not appreciate so now you start to value everything you had that you do not have anymore.

I am not going to lie to you, reader, spending a year (or less than a year) away from your family at the age of 17 it is not easy at all but it helps you to be prepared for college and life and it makes you strong.

This is why I recommend this experience to everyone, at any age, go live in another country for a considerable amount of time because it will broaden your knowledge of life.

Special shoutout to my amazing host family, the Letizia’s. Thank you for your generosity and the way you took care of me.
