A 21-year-old Crystal Lake man has been charged with aggravated criminal sex abuse and two counts of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender.
Thursday, Tyler S. Arcos, of the 900 block of Sheffield Drive, was arrested on a warrant subsequent to an ongoing investigation that he had solicited and engaged in sexual conduct with a female minor, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.
The aggravated criminal sex abuse charge is a Class 2 felony, while the unlawful failure to register as a sex offender charges are Class 3 felonies.
Crystal Lake Park District Police discovered Arcos being present within a public park, in the company of the minor, in violation of his previous child sex offender prohibitions.
According to Crystal Lake Police, detectives investigated Arcos' relationship with the minor and discovered evidence of indecent solicitation of a child over the use of social media, and that Arcos had failed to register the social media accounts and his vehicle to police, as required by state law.
Arcos reportedly came into contact with the female minor through Instagram on or around February of this year, and had been communicating with the minor ever since. Evidence of sexual conduct was also developed during the investigation, according to the news release.
Arcos remains in custody at McHenry County Jail with his bond set at $60,000. He is due at the McHenry County Courthouse at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
