The Republican 33rd District Legislative Committee will hold interviews of applicants wishing to fill the vacancy in nomination resulting from state Sen. Karen McConnaughay’s withdrawal as a candidate at the Nov. 6 general election, officials announced in a news release.

Prospective candidates should submit résumés, a current photograph and a letter of recommendation to 33rdSenateVacancy@gmail.com by 7 p.m. June 15.

The committee will consider all applications and offer in-person interviews to the most qualified candidates.

“Karen’s decision is a sad day for Illinois. Her leadership skills and her expertise in government will be difficult to replace,” Kane County GOP Chairman Kenneth Shepro stated in the release. “Our task now is to find a new nominee who will carry the banner of fiscal responsibility, and who will continue Karen’s advocacy to fight to stop human trafficking, to put an end to the toxic atmosphere in Springfield and to return Illinois to its heritage of greatness.”

All those who apply must be 21 years of age and have been a resident of the 33rd Senate District for at least two years.

An applicant also must meet all other qualifications as prescribed by the Constitution of the State of Illinois.

The Legislative Committee consists of Shepro and McHenry County GOP Chairwoman Diane Evertsen.

Questions or inquiries may be directed to Shepro at 708-471-4630 or via email to kcshepro@aol.com.
