To the Editor:
I was happy to read in Joan Oliver's column that Nicor Gas was completing Investing in Illinois work in your neighborhood. That’s our infrastructure modernization efforts to ensure every customer’s energy needs are met safely and reliably now and well into the future. I was disappointed, however, to read about your experience.
We hold ourselves accountable to our customers first and foremost. That starts with listening to – and learning from – our customers so we fully understand how to best meet their energy needs.
I want to thank you for the opportunity you provided us to better understand and improve our appearance guidelines for our contractors when they are working in our community. We care about the safety of our employees, partners and customers, and last year implemented a standard uniform program for our internal field employees. Wearing a uniform promotes employee and customer safety and security by immediately identifying us as company representatives. Our employees are our greatest asset and our brand ambassadors.
At this time, contractors of Nicor Gas are not subject to specific uniform guidelines; however, your experience has sparked an internal dialogue that I know will help us provide our partners with better guidance regarding presentation when interacting with our customers in the community.
We always seek opportunities to improve on the exceptional experience we strive to provide to all of our 2.2 million customers in the state. Your experience has provided us that opportunity.
