RICHMOND –The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office will join the Illinois State Police to conduct roadside safety checks this weekend in Richmond.
Officers assigned to the program will be watching for unsafe driving, drivers operating vehicles on a revoked or suspended license, open transport of alcoholic beverages, driving under the influence, speeding, seat belt and car seat use and distracted driving.
“Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, and throughout the U.S., nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a news release. “Roadside safety checks are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.”
This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
