A McHenry man faces felony charges after police said he drunkenly hit a night club worker with his car and drove off.

Authorities have charged 24-year-old Gerardo Vera with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of a crash involving personal injury. The most serious charge typically is punishable by between two and five years in prison.

He also was cited with driving under the influence of alcohol, court records show.

Vera is accused of striking a Club 220 North employee with his 1998 black Honda Civic on Sunday. The hit-and-run reportedly happened at 220 N. Randall Road, Lake in the Hills, according to a complaint filed in McHenry County court.

The Randall Road building operates as Moretti’s Ristorante and Pizzeria during the day and transforms into a club at night.

Fire officials responded to the crash, but no one was taken to the hospital, Algonquin- Lake in the Hills Fire Capt. Bill Pelinski said Tuesday.

Police could not provide details Tuesday.

Vera, of the 2600 block of Elm Oak Lane, was released Monday afternoon from the McHenry County Jail after posting bond, jail records show. He has not yet hired an attorney, and a public defender has not been appointed to represent him.

Vera pleaded guilty in November 2015 to driving under the influence of alcohol and was sentenced to one year of supervision, according to public court records.

He is due back in court July 2.
