The Woodstock School District 200 Administrative Services Center on Judd Street shut its doors Thursday as a means to consolidate facilities and save taxpayer funds.
Space inside Woodstock North High School has been redesigned to house about two dozen District 200 employees, including the superintendent and business offices, among others.
The new district office is self-contained, with a separate entrance near the school auditorium that is secure from the high school campus.
As staff and equipment are relocated, the district office will be closed to the public next week, and the new office at 2990 Raffel Road will reopen July 9.
The District 200 board approved the $490,000 sale of the administration building to MBI Staffing LLC in March. District officials said about $150,000 from the proceeds of the sale would be used to convert the space at Woodstock North.
The board also ended a lease for an administrative annex building in September, creating an annual savings of about $66,000. The annual operating and maintenance cost savings to the district by relocating administrative offices is about $66,000. The combination of ending the annex lease and selling the administrative building will save taxpayers about $132,000 annually.
The 6,481-square-foot structure on the corner of Judd and Tryon streets near the Woodstock Square was built in 1974. The district bought the building in 1988 for $365,000.
The decision to sell the building was brought on by recommendations from the district’s Facilities Review Committee, which was created to find ways to cut costs and better use vacant space in district buildings.
The group also recommended the end of the lease agreement for an annexation building.
