Applications for Crystal Lake Citizen Police Academy available

Deadline to apply Aug. 10; priority given to residents

The Crystal Lake Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizen Police Academy that will start Sept. 6 and end Nov. 15.

The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

The Citizen Police Academy is an 11-week program designed to give participants a working knowledge of the police department.

The academy includes of a series of classes, discussions and demonstrations of police department operations.

Participants must be at least
18 years old and complete the application and waiver of liability on the city of Crystal Lake’s website, www.crystallake.org.

Participants also must pass a criminal background check.

Anyone interested also can retrieve an application in person during normal business hours at the Crystal Lake Police Department,
100 W. Woodstock St.

Preference is given to residents and people who work in Crystal Lake. Once they have been accommodated, anyone else is free to apply.

Applications must be received by Aug. 10 for consideration. The class size will be limited to 20 participants, but not fewer than 10.
