Scott Jacobson of Woodstock will serve as McHenry County’s new assistant state’s attorney in the civil division.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally announced Jacobson’s new role Monday.

“We look forward to working with Mr. Jacobson as he helps further our mission of doing justice on behalf of the residents of McHenry County,” Kenneally said in a statement.

Jacobson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science from Union College in New York, and he earned his juris doctor degree at John Marshall Law School in Chicago. During law school, Jacobson clerked for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

“Scott brings valuable experience from the Illinois Appellate Court and the Office of the State’s Attorney Appellate Prosecutor,” Kenneally said.

At ILSAAP, Jacobson served as a special prosecutor and handled civil and criminal litigation throughout the state. From 2015 to 2018, Jacobson clerked for Justice Susan F. Hutchinson of the 2nd District Appellate Court.

Jacobson holds leadership positions in the Appellate Lawyers Association and the McHenry County Bar Association Board of Governors, where he is the Legislative and Supreme Court Rules Committee Chair. He previously was a member of the McHenry County Zoning Board of Appeals.

The State’s Attorney’s Office couldn’t be reached for comment Monday.
