LAKESIDE FESTIVAL, 39th annual, through July 7, Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole, 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. Presented by The Lakeside Legacy Foundation for the enjoyment of the community and guests visiting McHenry County with live music on two stages, Taste by the Lake, carnival rides, midway games, fireworks, historic tours and more. Hours: 4 to 11 p.m. Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Admission: $5 adults at the gate, $2 seniors, free for military with ID and children 12 and younger as well as free admission to the carnival midway. LAKEFEST, July 6-8, Water Tower Park, 429 W. State Road, Island Lake. A weekend of family fun featuring carnival rides, games, live music, car show, food and July 7 fireworks over the lake. THE CAPITOL STEPS, 8 p.m. July 6, Woodstock Opera House, 121 W. Van Buren St., Woodstock. The Capitol Steps makes its McHenry County debut for a night of bipartisan lampooning. Always fresh and crispy, mocking both ends of the political spectrum, this musical comedy troupe of Congressional staffers-turned-comedians travel the States satirizing the very people and places that once employed them. Tickets: $48 all seats. Before the show, dinner is available at Mia Passione or Public House of Woodstock with a price fixed dinner package. HERITAGE FAIR, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 8, McHenry County Historical Society Museum, 6422 Main St., Union. A 33rd annual event with a theme of “Illinois Patriotic Pride.” Dress in red, white and blue to mark the state’s bicentennial. Features an antique car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; White Elephant Sale starting at 9 a.m.; pie-baking contest at 9:30 a.m. Antique auction with auctioneer Russ Davis will be at 10:30 a.m. Appearances by Abraham Lincoln and the Clef Hangers barbershop quartet. Pioneer experience for children, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Freddy Fredericks and other magicians will stroll the grounds throughout the day and give a special performance at 2 p.m. in Eckert Hall. Baked goods, books, vintage clothing, garden plants are on sale. “The James” mobile museum will be open and food will be available. Free admission. Village-wide garage sale also scheduled.
