McHenry School District 156 has approved a five-year collective bargaining agreement with its Educators Association, as well as a five-year contract extension for Superintendent Ryan McTague.

The board approved an initial contract with McTague in 2016.

The educators agreement includes an average contract-term increase of 3.6 percent, according to a statement from the district.

A previous salary schedule was eliminated and replaced with a four-tiered salary range system.

“We are excited that the collaborative process resulted in a fiscally responsible contract that will attract and retain quality educators,” Educators Association President Ryan Ellison said. “The interest-based negotiation process built a solid foundation for the future.”

McTague is set to make $184,000 in the upcoming school year.

Future pay increases will be between 1.8 percent and 2.5 percent tied to the consumer price index, according to the district.

“We wanted to provide our teachers and district with consistency in leadership for the duration of the new teacher agreement to maximize continuity, direction and effectiveness,” District 156 board President Gary Kinshofer said. “Under Dr. McTague’s leadership, the district is improving curricular pathways to meet higher standards, developing new innovative courses, engaging in substantial strategic planning, communicating more effectively with stakeholders and integrating technology to improve student engagement and learning.”
