To the Editor:
If you live in McHenry Township and are being bled to death by property taxes, you’ll want to pay attention to the Nov. 6 general election and participate.
Because at this election voters will have the very rare opportunity to reduce the size and cost of Illinois’ nation leading 7,000 units of government through consolidation. All it will take is a yes vote. A yes vote will eliminate the township road district and consolidate it into the township.
Township roads will continue to be maintained by McHenry Township, they will not transfer to the county. Note: McHenry Township and the Road District are separate units of government. In other words, each township has two units of government. Most taxpayers do not know this. Township road commissioners, with their hands on your wallets, have mislead and confused taxpayers for their own benefits, not yours.
Homeowners see property tax increases that are funding the state’s 7,000 governments devour their home equity. Many, by the thousands, are packing up and fleeing the state. Your neighbor could be next.
The only way that Illinois can hoped to be ‘Saved’ is through reducing the size and cost of government through consolidations. Government consolidation, a good thing for taxpayers. Vote yes in November, bring a neighbor to the polls with you.
