To the Editor:
I was lucky enough to attend the debate between Rep. Peter Roskam and challenger Sean Casten on July 26. When I say lucky, I mean it.
Not only was I lucky enough to have the schedule flexibility to make it all the way downtown (outside of the 6th District) on a Thursday evening, but I also was lucky to have the financial means to buy a ticket ($33, plus $13.50 for train transportation) and the time to refresh the website at the exact time of ticket sales.
All 100 tickets sold out within two minutes, and those ticket holders truly were among the luckiest constituents in the district. The debate itself was extremely informative, especially because it was the first time I had been able to hear my congressman, Roskam, speak on issues for an extended period of time.
Because of this valuable experience, I am calling on Roskam, who already has turned down three debate requests from the League of Women Voters, to accept and attend a public debate in the 6th District, so all of his constituents will have the opportunity to hear him speak in person, not only the luckiest among us.
