Police have arrested one man and are searching for another who officials said used BB guns to shoot out multiple car windows last month.
Crystal Lake police responded at 7:35 p.m. Aug. 20 to the 200 block of Marian Parkway after receiving reports of several unattended vehicles with shattered windows in the parking lot.
Officers seized three BB guns during the investigation, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department sent Thursday.
On Aug. 27, police brought the case to the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved charges against two suspects Tuesday, according to the release.
Police issued $3,000 arrest warrants for 18-year-old Marcell D. Blanchard of Chicago and 19-year-old Willie E. Saffold of Crystal Lake.
Saffold was confronted with the charges Wednesday at the McHenry County Jail, where he already was in custody on unrelated charges, according to the release.
Blanchard’s whereabouts still are unknown.
Both men previously were arrested Aug. 23 and charged with theft after police accused them of stealing bicycles, according to a criminal complaint.
Blanchard was released from the jail without posting cash bond Aug. 24, public records show.
In connection with the shattered car windows, Saffold and Blanchard each are charged with criminal damage to property as both felony and misdemeanor offenses. The felony charge typically is punishable by as many as three years in prison.
