Letter: County Board members were wrong to walk out

County Board members should not have walked out of meeting

To the Editor:

I agree with the Editorial Board's view that the County Board walkout was wrong.

As a taxpayer in McHenry County, I want to know why the Recorder's Office's automation fund is at $2.5 million surplus. I want to know how that money will be used.

I don't appreciate Republican County Board members Joe Gottemoller, John Jung, Craig Wilcox, Jeff Thorsen, Chuck Wheeler, Michael Rein, Jim Kearns, Chris Christensen, and Chris Spoerl walking out of the September board meeting. Walking out left the board without a quorum; the Chairman was no longer able to ask Recorder Joe Tirio about the surplus.

We need transparency and accountability in our local government, not political squabbling.
