McHenry Villa Senior Living reopens after monthlong closure

The incident displaced more than 100 residents

McHenry Villa has reopened a month after a broken water pipe displaced more than 100 residents.

“I am very happy to report that as of Oct. 4. the city of McHenry granted occupancy to McHenry Villa Senior Living Community, and we have returned to normal operations,” Executive Director Noreen Zaio said in an email. “Our residents have moved back in to their apartments, and we were very excited to welcome them back.”

A water pipe burst Sept. 3 and flooded the building. The city shut off water service to the building, and electric also was disrupted.

“Our building sustained extensive water damage,” Zaio said. “We immediately began the extensive cleanup and undertook a series of repairs to water service, electrical service and elevator service. It was a long and difficult process, and we are grateful to all our residents and their families for their patience and understanding during the period we were closed.”

Zaio said a cause for the pipe burst had not been determined.

The facility includes studios and one- and two-bedroom suites. Its communal areas include a game room, library and outdoor patio and gardens along the Fox River, according to its website.

The senior living facility had been housing 106 people who either went to stay with relatives or were put up in local hotels, officials said at the time.

The center is owned by Minnesota-based Health Dimensions Group, which took over the property in 2013. The property was remodeled in 2014.

Health Dimensions Group is a management and consulting company that serves hospitals, health systems and long-term care and senior living providers. It manages and operates 22 health care properties.
