A 53-year-old Lake in the Hills resident was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night at West Algonquin and Crystal Lake roads, police said.

The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a 53-year-old Lake in the Hills man last week will not face charges.

The 50-year-old Algonquin woman who struck David Popovich with her vehicle Oct. 30 had taken steps to avoid hitting the man, Algonquin Police Sgt. Robert Salazar said.

The crash happened about 6 p.m. at West Algonquin and Crystal Lake roads. The driver, who was at a green light, had the right of way and was traveling under the posted speed limit, Salazar said.

Officials took Popovich to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital, and he later died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, police said.
