A Wonder Lake man faces as many as 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to delivering heroin to a man who later died of an overdose.
Shawn M. Brand, 35, of the
7500 block of Backbay Road, entered a blind plea Friday morning to delivery of a controlled substance.
Sheriff’s deputies found 29-year-old Jeremy Caccamo on July 5, 2017, in the bedroom of his Wonder Lake home in the 4500 block of East Wonder Lake Road.
Brand is accused of delivering the fatal dose of heroin found in Caccamo’s system.
A three-month investigation revealed phone records of an arranged drug delivery between Brand and Caccamo on July 4, 2017, court records show.
Police arrested Brand on Oct, 12, 2017, and charged him with drug-induced homicide and delivery of heroin.
McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather is expected to issue a sentence Jan. 10. Brand faces a four- to 15-year penalty. The sentence would mark his third trip to the Illinois Department of Corrections – a detail Caccamo’s mother, Janet Caccamo, hopes the judge takes into consideration.
“It’s been an extremely difficult time for the family, and we hope the sentencing will be appropriate, given his past history, and lean more toward the maximum sentence,” Janet Caccamo said.
Brand previously was sentenced to 1½ years in prison in March 2013 and again in May 2015 for possession of a controlled substance.
He remained at the McHenry County Jail on Monday without bond.
