High school sports roundup for Wednesday, Dec. 5

Bucknell commit Alex Timmerman led four Crystal Lake Central players in double-digit scoring with 22 points on 11 field goals against Marengo in a 68-46 boys basketball win Wednesday in Crystal Lake.

Ryan Mendoza had 12 points for Central (3-4), C.J. Lerum added 11 points, and Evan Cassell had 10.

Marengo (3-6) was led in scoring by Matt Volkening with 11 points and two 3s. Brady Cannon had nine points on three 3s, Aiden Smith had eight points with two 3s, and Nick Wascher added seven points.

Cary-Grove 62, Huntley 48: At Huntley, the Trojans (5-1, 1-0) defeated the Red Raiders in their FVC opener. Uchenna Egekeze led Huntley (4-2, 1-1) with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, Nate Draper matched Egekeze with 13 points, and Ryan Sroka had 10 points in the loss.

Alden-Hebron 40, Christian Liberty 29: At Hebron, Gideon Schauer collected 17 points and eight rebounds for the Giants in a Northeastern Athletic Conference victory.

Brad Judson finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, and Kyle Judson had five points and four steals for A-H (2-3, 1-1).

Antioch 51, Richmond-Burton 40: At Richmond, the Rockets lost the nonconference game to the Sequoits. Luke Uhwat led R-B (1-5) with 15 points, and Jeff Jankowski tossed in 12.

Jacobs 55, McHenry 38: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles improved to 4-3 and 1-1 in the FVC with a win over the Warriors (0-7, 0-2).

Dundee-Crown 56, Prairie Ridge 39: At Crystal Lake, the Chargers (5-1, 1-1) picked up an FVC win over the Wolves, who fell to 0-7 and 0-2 in conference play.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marengo 68, Round Lake 45: At Round Lake, Marissa Knobloch led Marengo with 22 points on the strength of five 3s and Jennifer Heinberg added 21 points on four 3s in a win over the Panthers.

Erin Haeflinger added eight points for the Indians (6-3), and Jordan Parker tossed in seven.

WRESTLING

Byron 43, Harvard 33: At Byron, the Hornets dropped the nonconference dual to the Tigers. Bryce Fiegel (106 pounds) and Uriel Herrera (113) each recorded pins in 41 seconds for Harvard, and Nik Jimenez (126) and Brett Lovell (138) also won by pin.

Chase Bischke added a 7-5 decision at 145 pounds.

BOYS SWIMMING

St. Viator Invite: At Arlington Heights, Jacobs co-op took first as a team, winning six of 11 events. Vince Chiappetta won the 200-yard freestyle and 500 free, and Eric Boysen had the fastest time in the 100 butterfly.

Alec Orndahl, Alex Le, Boysen and Nate Herrera finished first in the 200 medley relay, Le, Caden Waddell, Orndahl and Herrera won the 200 free relay, and Boysen, Chiappetta, Orndahl and Herrera captured the 400 free relay title.

GIRLS BOWLING

Huntley 2,602, Kaneland 2,264: At Mardi Gras Lanes in DeKalb, Jen Spielman rolled a match-leading 604 series, including single games of 193 and 182, for the Red Raiders. Gen Porsche recorded the highest game (212), while Abby Matula added games of 182 and 183, Cassie Lugo rolled a 178, Mary Boffa had a 176.

BOYS BOWLING

Grant 2,976, Johnsburg 2,832: At Raymond's Bowl in Johnsburg, Cody Onopa bowled the high series (671) of the match for the Skyhawks with single games of 244, 204 and 223. Grant's Tommy Janusz (658) led everyone with a high game of 259.

Tony Murtaugh added a 593 series for Johnsburg, Mike Brengman had a 564, and Noah Clements rolled a 509.
