A longtime veteran service worker and former Marine who served in the Vietnam War has retired.

Ted Biever of Lake in the Hills has spent the past
22 years working for the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs. His role was to help veterans fight to get their benefits in place after their exit from active service.

Biever also was active in the local veteran community and started a Lake in the Hills support group for veterans who deal with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

He retired last week, and he said his big “going away” present was the news that one of his clients, a fellow Marine veteran, had obtained 100 percent disability status.

Biever had worked with her for about six years, helping to file claims for her conditions. The VA uses a veterans disability rating to determine how much of a monthly compensation it will pay each person.

Two retirement parties will be held in Biever’s honor. The first will be from 1 to
4 p.m. Friday at the Woodstock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5040, 240 N. Throop St.

The second will be at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the West Dundee VFW Post 2298,
117 S. First St.
