Algonquin Township board to revisit rejected road district bills

Algonquin Township Trustee Dave Chapman discusses billing matters during a meeting Aug. 8 in Crystal Lake.

The Algonquin Township board will meet Wednesday night to audit bills and discuss rolling out a biannual newsletter for residents.

The meeting agenda includes an audit of township and road district bills – a pillar of drama at the board’s meeting in December, when trustees rejected about $168,000 in lawyer bills and equipment purchases Highway Commissioner Andrew Gasser submitted for approval.

Those bills included $34,980 from Gasser’s $400-an-hour Woodstock-based attorney, Robert Hanlon, and an additional $133,000 in bills tied to road district equipment purchases that included a new Peterbilt 348 truck bought for $87,959 and a 2019 Ford F-350 bought for $41,777.

Those bills again will appear before the board Wednesday night.

Trustee Dave Chapman will pitch commissioning a biannual newsletter for residents in the spring and fall to highlight what’s happening around the township.

“It’s so important that the township get the word out on what we do,” Chapman said. “There’s lots of good things going on, and more things to come.”

The newsletter, Chapman said, would be a good public relations tool to show township residents that there’s more to Algonquin Township than government infighting and expensive legal battles.

Set for 7 p.m. at 3702 Route 14, Crystal Lake, the meeting will include a public comment portion to allow residents to address the board.
