A man and woman from Rolling Meadows face felony charges after police said officers seized about 4 pounds of marijuana and two semi-automatic handguns from their vehicle during a traffic stop.
Michael T. Pozsgay, 29, and Toni R. Josephson, 19, both of the 2400 block of Golf Road, Rolling Meadows, remained at the McHenry County Jail on Thursday afternoon, each on $40,000 bond. They were arrested Wednesday after police searched their vehicle.
Officers with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force conducted a traffic stop Wednesday in Lake in the Hills.
Authorities had been investigating the pair for about a week, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office sent Thursday.
Police used a search warrant to go through the vehicle, where they allegedly found the drugs and weapons. The couple also was found in possession of several rounds of ammunition and $5,237 in cash, the release stated.
The street value of the marijuana was an estimated $35,000. Pozsgay and Josephson each have been charged with possession with intent to deliver between 200 and 5,000 grams of marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm without a firearm owner’s identification card.
The most serious charge, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, typically is punishable by as many as seven years in prison.
McHenry County Judge Joel Berg appointed the public defender’s office to represent the pair individually.
Pozsgay and Josephson are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
