Letter: Robert Hanlon, fighting for the little guy

To the Editor:

I have known attorney Robert Hanlon for many years and have always found him to be a hardworking and honest family man. During that time, I know of several occasions when Rob has stood up to advocate for the little guy and the financially disadvantaged for free.

Hanlon represents the Algonquin Township highway commissioner, and if you only read the Northwest Herald concerning the issues in Algonquin Township, you would not have a favorable impression of Hanlon. But Hanlon is doing what any good attorney should do – fighting for his client. If the taxpayers’ money that is being used to pay for the services of Hanlon as attorney were being paid out of the pockets of the elected officials of Algonquin Township, many of these issues would be resolved quickly, and Hanlon’s services would not be needed.

In McHenry Township, where there also is a very adversarial relationship between the trustees, highway commissioner and supervisor, no one has had the need to hire an outside attorney. Is it because the township attorney’s opinion and advice is respected by all of the parties involved? Maybe in Algonquin Township the elected officials should consider what their attorney has done to resolve their adversarial relationships.

Hanlon is a successful attorney and a contributing citizen of McHenry County who, when called upon, is willing to advocate against big, powerful adversaries and fight for the little guy.
