One person taken to area hospital after Thursday garage fire in Alden

Fire caused $50K in damage, fire official says

One person was injured during a Thursday garage fire in Alden, Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District Chief Thomas Linneman said in a news release.

The district responded to a reported fire about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 8900 block of Alden Road. When first responders arrived, they found a fully involved garage fire that had spread to the house, he said.

The fire was under control in about an hour but crews remained on the scene until about 8 p.m. to check for hotspots, Linneman said.

Three people were able to escape the house, and one of them suffered injuries, he said. The injured person was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for treatment, Linneman said.

Crews rescued the family cat during the fire.

The home was in a rural area without fire hydrants. Fire crews from Marengo, Capron, Richmond, Spring Grove, Wonder Lake, Woodstock, Harvard, Lake Geneva, Twin Lakes, Fontana and Walworth responded to the scene, he said.

Fire crews from Randall, Wisconsin, and the McHenry Township Fire Protection District covered the Alden-Hebron-Greenwood district during the incident, Linneman said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
