High school sports roundup for Thursday, March 14

Richmond-Burton’s Sierra Wells scored off an assist from Lilian Maclean to lift the Rockets past Johnsburg, 1-0, in their Kishwaukee River Conference girls soccer game Thursday.

R-B (1-0, 1-0) got one save from goalkeeper Kendall Haugaard in the first half and two from Katelynn Carlson in the second.

The Rockets and Skyhawks moved their game, originally scheduled at Johnsburg, indoors to the Barrington Canlan Sportsplex.

Prairie Ridge 1, Grayslake North 0: At Grayslake, Abby Eriksen's header in the first half proved to be the difference in the Wolves' nonconference win.

Sam Gablenz earned the shutout in goal for Prairie Ridge (2-0) with three saves.

Crystal Lake South 6, Streamwood 1: At Streamwood, the Gators (2-0) scored five goals in the first half and rolled past the Sabres in their nonconference victory.

Bella Farrington scored twice, one in each half. Lili Sisler, Abby Wiegand, Maggie Rimer and Emma Chudik each scored a first-half goal. Chudik, Sisler and Wiegand also had assists for the Gators.

Julia Martin made two saves for South.

Crystal Lake Central 4, Mundelein 2: At Mundelein, the Tigers (2-1) trailed by two goals at halftime but came back with a big second half to defeat the Mustangs.

Emma Bolanowski opened the scoring for Central off an assist from Megan Wozniak early in the second half.

Grace Rokos, Katie Hopkins and Wozniak scored to give Central the victory. Rokos and Abbey Kramer had assists.

Grayslake Central 5, McHenry 0: At McHenry, the Warriors (0-1) dropped their season opener despite 19 saves from sophomore keeper Annie Bantner.

BOYS BASKETBALL

IHSA 3-Point Showdown: At Peoria, Huntley’s Nathan Draper and Cary-Grove’s Beau Frericks both advanced to Friday’s finals in Class 4A at Carver Arena in the Peoria Civic Center.

Draper made 11 of 15 shots, but Frericks needed a little more work. He made 10 in the first round and had to go through two overtime shoot-off rounds.

Frericks and five other shooters went to overtime for the final spot in the four-competitor field. He and Harlem’s Dominic Renteria each made 8 of 10 in the first round, knocking out the other four shooters. In the final round, Frericks made six and Renteria made five.

The finals Friday will take place about 7 p.m. That round will take place between the two Class 4A state tournament semifinal games.

In Class 3A, Johnsburg’s Jonny Preston was one of four shooters to make 10 in the first round and tie for the fourth spot. Preston made 6 of 10 in overtime and was eliminated in the first round when two shooters hit seven.

Woodstock’s Evan Bridges, the Blue Streaks’ career 3-point leader, hit 8 of 15 in his round and didn't advance.
