Northlake child dies after Sunday night crash

The incident occurred at Route 47 and Interstate 90

A 10-year-old boy is dead following a Sunday night crash near Huntley, police said.

Illinois State Police responded to the crash about 6:45 p.m. Sunday at Route 47 and Interstate 90. Stacy Blume, 38, was driving a Chrysler van with two 10-year-old passengers, police said.

As she was driving on the westbound ramp to Route 47, she ran off the roadway and flipped over into the retention pond, police said.

The van was submerged on its roof. Passersby helped Blume and a 10-year-old girl out of the car. The boy was unconscious when he was taken from the van, police said.

A doctor began performing CPR on the boy. All three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Blume and the girl had minor injuries. The boy was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m. at the hospital, police said.

The incident is under investigation.
