In Cary-Grove's season opener, starting pitcher Quinn Priester threw three scoreless innings, striking out five, while allowing one hit and one walk in C-G's 7-0 nonconference win over Palatine on Tuesday in Cary. The highly touted senior also went 1 for 2 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.
Ethan Estes pitched three scoreless innings in relief, striking out six. Palatine mustered only two hits in the game. C-G’s Drew Stengren hit a double and drove in two runs.
Marengo 19, Palatine 12: At Marengo, the Indians’ Mikayla Wzientek went 3 for 5 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored in a nonconference win. Dani Hartmann also drove in four runs for Marengo (2-0) while hitting 3 for 4 with a double.
Lauren Aubry and McKenna Skow both picked up three-hit days, each with a double, for the Indians. Abby Powers allowed three earned runs in three innings pitched, striking out one.
Prairie Ridge 3, Vernon Hills 1: At Vernon Hills, Nikki Anderson scored two goals in a nonconference Wolves win.
Abby Eriksen also scored a goal. Kelly Gende recorded two assists, and Emily Eriksen added one assist. Sam Gablenz made six saves for the Wolves (3-0-1).
Lake Zurich 3, Jacobs 1: At Lake Zurich, Baylee Vincent scored the only goal for Jacobs (1-2-1) in a nonconference loss to Lake Zurich. Cassie Kowalski recorded the assist.
Boylan 7, Marian Central 0: At Rockford, the Titans shut out the Hurricanes (0-2) in their nonconference game.
Marian coach Brittany Hull-Solomon credited midfielder Zoe Villont for her defensive work challenging the tough Titans offense.
Nova Rothlisberger made seven saves for the Hurricanes, and Megan Lingle had two.
Woodstock North 11, Harvard 0: At Harvard, North shut out Harvard in Kishwaukee River Conference action. Taylor Prerost scored four goals. Ivette Diaz and Jenna Kopp each scored two goals. Lauren Kunke, Shea Jones and Anastasia Mazzanti each scored goals.
Prerost, Kunke, Jones, Mazzanti, Diaz, Glehisha Escorza and Abbi Burg had assists. Kylie Finch recorded a shutout for the Thunder (1-1, 1-0). Harvard dropped to 0-1-1 and 0-1 in the KRC.
