A six-month investigation into multiple burglaries, thefts and arson resulted in the arrest Thursday of a homeless man with a criminal record, according to a news release from the McHenry Police Department.

James R. Henson, 51, formerly of the 4400 block of West Bull Valley Road, McHenry, was taken into custody without incident by McHenry police and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit on Thursday for his role in two burglaries in October, police said.

On Oct. 20, police reported a burglary in the 1300 block of Borden Street in McHenry where a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette was removed from an enclosed trailer, according to the release.

The vehicle was located four days later near Henson’s last known residence and had been extensively damaged by fire, police said.

On Oct. 26, several bundles of copper wire and an E-Z-GO golf cart were reportedly taken from a construction trailer near Bode Lane and Cunat Drive in McHenry, police said.

Henson is charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, unlawful conversion of a motor vehicle, burglary, theft over $500 and arson in connection with the incidents, police said.

Except for the theft, all charges are Class 2 felonies punishable by three to seven years in prison.

Henson was processed at the McHenry Police Department and taken to the McHenry County Jail.

In 2015, Henson – who logged at least nine trips to the Illinois Department of Corrections for crimes including burglary, forgery, battery and criminal damage to property – was sentenced to 16 years in prison for burglary. He was paroled in May 2018, according to the IDOC website.
