Letter: Why cut the buses?

To the Editor:

Shame on the McHenry Township trustees who voted against keeping the senior buses for transportation. A total of 12,572 trips last year have been taken for the disabled, veterans, and seniors. The trustees that voted against it had already made their minds up before dozens of citizens spoke of the dire need to keep their form of transportation to go to doctors, dialysis, pharmacies and their places of worship.

The reason they stated was residents are tired of high taxes. The tax cost per parcel per their handout was $7.67. The highest taxes residents pay is for District 15 and District 156. I pay a total of 70% of my tax bill to the schools $3,111.02. My share to the township is $47.08. Roads almost $100.

Can you tell me that $7.67 for the senior bus isn't warranted? It's a lifeline to them.
