To the Editor:
Shame on the entire Board of Trustees for McHenry Township. Specifically for not policing its own. Where are their ethics? (Ethics – noun, is defined as a moral philosophy or code of morals practiced by a person or group of people).
Why is an individual who refuses to pay taxes (going on two years) even allowed to serve in such capacity? Especially since they receive a stipend for service, which comes from taxpayers! Since Trustee Mike Rakestraw doesn’t pay his taxes, why is he allowed to collect taxpayer monies? And yet, he’s been allowed to make decisions by vote affecting the paying citizens, such as the recent bus program elimination decision.
In a previous article, this trustee responded residents are overtaxed and shouldn’t have to pay for services they don’t use. Maybe we all are, but we don’t get to pick and choose what to pay for based on what we use. Maybe it’s time the residents of McHenry Township decide not to pay the services of a trustee who doesn’t pay their taxes.
