Letters to the Editor

Letter: Follow our laws

To the Editor:

The week of June 17 in the state of Illinois, our new governor made a statement, and I don’t think he realized exactly what he said. He, along with the new mayor of Chicago, stated that the police are not to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (a government agency) when it comes to illegal immigrants in the state.

Both did not realize this is federal law. What they are saying, yes, you took an oath to uphold the Constitution, but you don’t have to live by the oath you took. It is OK to break the law. Now, what kind if impression are we leaving our children? Hey, kids, you no longer have to listen to Mom and Dad. They might make rules, but you no longer have to obey them.

The police don’t, so why should you? And teachers, you’re in trouble because the kid’s no longer have to go by what you say. The governor and mayor said you don’t have to obey. Tell the teacher what you think of their rules. Go ahead; it’s OK If the police don’t have to follow the law, so why should you?

It’s not only the state of Illinois. Other states are doing the same thing. State government officials are telling our children that it is OK not to follow rules, regulations or laws. So if state government officials and police don’t obey, why should the children?
